School Register

Enrollment

Enrolled students should complete course registration within the designated course register period by paying tuition.

Course Registration

  • Register for courses through the UST Portal system on the UST website within the designated period.

Tuition Payment Period

  • Spring semester: in February
  • Fall semester: in August

    Refer to the tuition payment information for a detailed schedule.

Tuition Payment Method

  • Single payment or installment payment to the designated bank account.
  • Installment Payment: Students who sign up for installment payment pay in four installments.

Note

  • Any student who does not complete registration within the designated period without a valid reason will be expelled according to the academic regulations.

Tuition Refund

  • If there is a valid reason to refund the tuition, a student may have his/her tuition refunded according to the refund standard.

Reduction of the Course of Study

Students who get the minimum credits for receiving a degree may graduate early; 6 months maximum for master’s and doctoral students and 1 year maximum for integrative Courses students.

Extension of the Maximum Term of Study(Extension of Prescribed Time Limit)

Students who cannot acquire their degrees within the prescribed time limit are expelled. If a student has a valid reason, he/she may extend their period within 2 semesters at maximum. (The student should go through the deliberation of the Graduate Committee if he/she wants to extend the prescribed time limit)

Completion Requirement

  • The student must meet the years required for graduation according to the academic regulations.
  • The student must complete the minimum credits in each course according to the academic regulations.
  • Average GPA of all the subjects must be at least B0(3.0/4.5).

Post-Coursework Enrollment

  • Students who completed coursework can enroll if he/she wishes to continue education and research at UST so that he/she can be given the same responsibilities and duties as coursework enrolled students.

    Not enrolled post-coursework semester is also included in the Study Duration(Prescribe Time Limit)

  • Post-Coursework students who has not completed enrollment can neither make labor contracts nor receive support(ex. student welfare, International Research Exchanged program, Korean lecture etc.) from UST.

    If International students do not enroll after completing coursework, their VISA extension can be limited. UST will consider student who do not apply for the Post-Coursework enrollment has left Korea and report to the Immigration Control accordingly.

  • UST proceeds Post-Coursework Enrollment every semester through Portal system(Related Notice will be provided every semester)

    Guidance will be provided if the Post-Courework Tuition Fee is set to be charged.

Each type of special leave of absence is given additional period regardless applicant’s academic course.
Freshmen can not apply for general and start-up leave of absence.

Credit(s) can be given when applicant made more than 3/4 of the semester.

Extension of Leave of Absence

  • When students on leave of absence wish to extend the period, the application must be made again.
  • Application for leave of absence can be made up to 2 semesters each time, in case of disease leave of absence, application can be made up to 1 semester each time.

When leave of absence occurs after applicant make tuition payment, refund can be made.

Tuition Return

Students who receive the approval for leave after the semester begins can receive a tuition refund according to the tuition return standard of the payment regulation.

Notes

  • Students in each course cannot leave the university arbitrarily without a valid reason.
  • When a student leaves the university, the university can ask the student for a repayment of benefit expense according to the regulation for benefit expense refund standard.

Disenrollment

Reasons for Disenrollment (Applicable if one of the following items is true.)

  • Not returning to school after one’s period of leave of absence expires
  • Not completing the registration during the registration period without a valid reason
  • Not completing course registration during the registration period without a valid reason
  • Not acquiring the degree within the maximum term of study(4 years for master’s students, 6 years for doctoral students, and 8 years for integrative course student)
  • Being placed under academic probation twice during the period of attendance at school
  • Being expelled with valid reasons
  • Violating the full-time system or registering in more than 1 school at a time
  • Died while being enrolled

Readmission

Readmission Entries

  • General admission / International admission(Foreigners): Within the entrance quota of the year
  • International admission (Koreans leaving overseas, North Korean defector, entrusted students,etc.): Out of the entrance quota

Readmission Qualifications

  • A student who left or was expelled less than 2 years ago are qualified for readmission (only one time). (The 2-year military service period is not included in this2-year period.)

    Those who cannot be readmitted

  • Those who were expelled because they could not acquire degrees within the maximum period
  • Those who were expelled as a disciplinary measure by the Graduate Committee

Approval of Advanced Credits

When the readmission process is completed, part or all of the student's previous credits can be redeemed after the agreement of the (prospective)academic advisor, major professor, and dean.

Calculation of the Period of Attendance at School

The period of attendance for students who are readmitted is reckoned based on the student’s first day of the course.

Reason for Changing the Academic Advisor

  • When the advisor cannot guide the student due to his retirement, leave of absence, or long-term business trip
  • When the student change his or her campus
  • When the advisor cannot guide the student due to other unavoidable circumstances

    Please apply for changing department/major in the case of changing the advisor and epartment/major at the same time.

Notes

Students can select the full-time professor or adjunct professor as a joint advisor within their majors.

A student can apply for changing his/her major using the method above if he/she has to change the campus to change his/her department/major.

Notes

  • If a student has to change the department to change his/her major, approval of both departments’ deans should be included.
  • If a student applies for changing the department/major during the first semester, he/she not need to submit the transcript.
Integrative Course

This integrative course allows students to acquire a doctorate degree directly without submitting a master’s thesis or going through the doctorate admission process.

Course of Study and Maximum Term for the Integrative Course

  • Course of Study: 4 years, including the period of the master's course that was already taken (leave of absence is not included)
  • Maximum Term: 8 years, including the period of the master's course that was already taken (leave of absence is not included)

Qualifying Examination for the Doctoral Course

It is an examination for a student who newly started the integrative course and completed at least 2 semesters. The student should pass this exam before completing the fourth semester in order for his/her course to be admitted as a doctoral course.

  • A student can take the qualifying up to 2 times and must pass the examination before completing fourth semesters.
  • Registration deadline for examination: Before every semester
  • Examinees should submit an application for their qualifying examination, research proposal, and transcript to their advisors.
  • If a student in the integrative course is unable to pass the exam before completing fourth semester, he/she is not eligible for admission to the doctoral course level (transfer to the master's course).

    Refer to the announcement made every semester for the details such as required documents or a detailed schedule of the qualifying examination for the doctoral course.
